First of all, thanks to Andreas Auwärter from “Podcasting for Learning” to introduce my blog and me in one of his recent blog posts. It took me quite a while to come back to this but I guess that’s what life is about.

Anyway, this gives me a chance to link to one of his new initiatives. Andreas and his colleagues at the University of Koblenz started a new podcast series on “Are universities ready for Web 2.0?” - quite interesting and the podcasts are well done. Via Mandy Schiefner I found out that multiple choice questions might have been partly outlawed. According to this new court decision, it’s not enough anymore to answer 50 to 60 per cent of the questions correctly. There has to be a relative quota as well. Here’s the original German description of the whole process:

Nach der neuen Entscheidung reicht es nicht mehr aus, wenn 50 oder 60 Prozent der Fragen richtig beantwortet seien, sondern die Prüfungsordnung muss ausdrücklich vorsehen, dass eine relative Bestehensgrenze besteht. Das heißt: Die Leistung eines Prüflings muss nicht nur an der absoluten Leistung gemessen werden, sondern auch an der relativen Leistung seiner Mitprüflinge.
Im Klartext würde das ähnlich wie bei der Approbationsordnung von Ärzten bedeuten, dass der Prüfling bestanden hat, wenn er 50 oder 60 Prozent der Fragen richtig beantwortet hat oder nicht schlechter war als 20 oder 22 Prozent seiner Mitprüflinge. (AZ; 14B 1035/06) Quelle
